Currently, I am using the landscape to explore the passing of time. The seasons change and mark specific points in time that produce memories with different emotional impact. While they create memories of time's passing, they also demonstrate hopes for the future. I live in a rural area with a 180 degree view of the skies and nature as it changes. It has become a great deal of the inspiration for many of these new paintings. Just as in life, it is sometimes beautiful and other times threatening. I try to capture those changes in temperature and weather using the textures and colors of the landscape in a semi-abstract manner. These landscapes become, for me, expressions of broader conditions; concern for social, political, cultural, and environmental; within the world and also of hope and anticipation of change. We can find beauty and peace even in the midst of ugliness.
